SEO and Social Media the ultimate bedfellows

July 9th, 2008 by Jenni Beattie · No Comments

Our Online Account Director, Lesley White highlighted a great article today from the Search Engine Guide called Why the social media world needs to understand SEO.

The premise of the article was that the social media world and the SEO world viewed each other suspiciously and don’t realise the value of both disciplines working seamlessly together.

The author of the article, Jennifer Laycock said:

Search engine marketers look to social media as a vast expanse of link opportunities, almost completely missing the true potential of social media. On the other hand, social media types tend to look at SEO as some type of dirty game of tricks and scams that would tarnish the pure image they hope to build in their social media utopia.

Some months ago I attended the Ad Tech Conference in Sydney and asked a SEO panel about the interrelationship of social media and SEO - the panel stared blankly and said something to the effect of oh yes - pr companies spamming media releases. They didn’t understand the power or legitimacy in combining the two areas. Finally! it is nice to see an article confirming what we practice in the agency.

Bottom line: Next time you talk to your pr agency about social media ensure they also understand SEO - if they don’t you know where to find us ;)  and in the meantime I guess the industry will keep humming this song
