This week, Google released its list of top Australian searches for 2008.
The Top 10 Australian searches of 2008:
1. Games
2. Sydney
3. YouTube
4. MySpace
5. Facebook
6. Google
7. EBay
8. MySpace
9. Weather
10. Hotmail
It’s interesting to note that six of the top ten searches relate to consumer driven sites: social networks, UGC and email.
It never fails to amuse me that ‘Google’ is always a top search term.

I wonder if people really search with only a singular keyword like Games or Sydney? Are Aussies really that daft or tech-less savy?

Hey, how come MySpace is on the list twice?
I love looking at these lists. it sort of tells a story of the new user deciding to finally jump into this whole internet thing. I think that’s reflected by the search for Google. But they are also thinking about the computer as a tool, either to play games, watch video, or to connect. Long gone are the days when the computer was a work tool.

I don’t think that Aussies are that daft, just that the majority of searchers don’t know the full capabilities of searching.
@Matt - Not sure why MySpace is on the list twice, but that’s how it was published. Perhaps some searched for MySpace and others My Space. I love these sorts of lists too, they often show results quite different to what I’d expect.
